California Highway Patrol, also known as CHiPs Patrol first
aired on our screens 15th September 1977. It follows the adventures
of motorcycle cops Jon and Ponch. Jon was the straight serious
officer, while Ponch was the more free wheeling joker of the
duo. Each episode saw Jon and Ponch patrolling the freeways
and dealing with situations such as car jacking, hijackings,
car accidents with pile ups of cars. Also we would see the
private lives of Jon and Ponch with the moving of apartments
to the dating parts of their social life.
The series ran for 6 seasons giving
us 139 hour long episodes. Also one movie a CHiPs reunion
movie called CHiPs99.
Robert Pine starred as
the Sergeant that Jon and Ponch reported to each day. He played
this role for the whole 6 seasons. Larry left the show at
the end of season 5 and was replaced by Tom Reilly, who was
later replaced by speedway champion Bruce Penhall.
