Ponch
and Jon stop 2 cars driving down the highway bumping into
each other. They are assisted in the arrest by 2 Cal Trans
employees that are planting new plants to replace ones that
had been stolen. During the arrest, one of the men try to
get away from Ponch and causes him to fall into a mud puddle.
Just another day in the life of Ponch. Before he can return
to clean up, they see a car run a stop sign and go in pursuit.
It is two women and they switch places before pulling over
but Jon and Ponch see this. The two women are twin psychics
and they take an instant dislike to Ponch. The one lady predicts
Ponch’s future. She tells him to beware of sharp objects,
that he will have a conflict with an authority figure, he
is in danger from fire and that he will experience a romantic
setback. Ponch blows it off as a bunch of mumble jumble. Jon
and Ponch go back to Ponch’s motor home so he can change
clothes and Ponch offers to fix lunch. Jon isn't really interested
as Ponch offers tuna and pork and beans. Ponch decides to
eat anyway and cuts his finger on the lid of the can. (beware
of sharp objects). When they return to Central, Getraer is
out front watering his plants. He tells Ponch that he has
just got off a 30 minute phone call with twins and they were
complaining about Ponch. (conflict with an authority figure).
At briefing, Getraer tells the guys that the “Green
Thumb Burglars”, as they have become known as, have
stolen about $60,000 in plants. He tells everyone to be on
the look out for these guys. When the guys get back on the
freeway they come up on an accident where a car has cut off
a tanker full of fuel. No one is hurt. The car is a total
wreck but the tanker is fine and they wave it on. As it is
pulling away, Ponch notices that it is leaking fuel and as
it drives over a safety flare the tanker catches on fire.
Ponch and Jon chase it down and finally are met by a foam
truck from the fire department and put out the fire. Ponch
has been riding beside the truck the whole way and if it had
blown up he would have been hurt ( in danger from fire). While
at Central, Jon has an idea that maybe the plants robbery
is going on under their noses. Maybe the guys from Cal Trans
that they see on the highway aren't planting trees but digging
them up. He tells his idea to Ponch and suggests that maybe
they should start checking everyone's I.D. to make sure they
are really State employees. Ponch likes that idea and tells
Getraer, who also likes the idea. Ponch made it sound like
it was his idea. When Joe gets on the radio to all the officers
in the field, he makes it sound like it was his idea. H. R.
Puffenstuff makes a guest appearance as himself and is pulled
over for speeding. Back on patrol, Jon and Ponch see a Cal
Trans truck full of tree and decide to pull it over to check
I.D. but the truck is carrying the 3 “Green Thumb Burglars”.
They try to run from the officers. Getraer joins the chase
and they chase them around in a drive in theatre. When they
finally run their truck into the play area and are arrested,
Getraer says that it is his arrest since he is the one that
cares for all the plants at Central. Jon and Ponch let him
have the credit. After work, Ponch stops by Jon’s on
his way to a date with Georgia, a secretary at Central. He
has a dozen roses that he has bought her. Ponch sees that
Jon has the table set for two and figures that Jon has a date
and tries to put candles on the table. Jon says he really
doesn't have a date but Ponch insists. When he goes to light
the candle he burns is finger (danger from fire). Jon tells
Ponch that he had got a call from Georgia and she had to cancel
her date with Ponch because she got engaged that afternoon
(experience a romantic setback). Ponch goes to sit down in
the chair and sits on the roses and gets stuck with a thorn
(beware of sharp objects). Seems the psychic did predict Ponch’s
future. Jon takes the cover off the plate he had made for
Ponch to ease his pain of getting stood up. It contains tuna
fish and pork and beans and snack cakes. WROTE BY ZAPIT
