126. Return To Death's Door

Ponch tries to stop illegal racing on Mulholland Drive; the brother of Ponch's late friend challenges him to race.

Up in the hills some kids are racing their cars.
Meanwhile on patrol Ponch and Bobby are on the freeway when they are joined by Bruce, a dog is loose on the highway and as Ponch slows down the traffic, Bobby and Bruce pull the dog over to the sidewalk, a call comes in about the hill racers and while Ponch and Bobby go off to respond Bruce is left to tend to the dog, he takes it to Harlan at the CHP garage.

In the hills, the racers are racing fast, they nearly cause a crash and Ponch and Bobby want to stop them before they hurt themselves, at The Death's Door drop one of the cars goes off the top, but the driver manages to jump out before the car goes over and explodes, Ponch looks over to where the car went off and has a flashback as he remembers the death of a friend there when he was racing him. That boys brother is in the patrol car having been arrested for his part in the race, Ponch and his eyes meet, and they both remember each other from the time of the death of Ponch's friend and his brother.

Later Ponch goes to the jail to bail out the brother but he gets no thanks.

Back on patrol Ponch is again having flashbacks about his friends death and Ponch then returns to Death's Door and he is clearly upset.

After a freeway chase to arrest a couple of car thieves Ponch again returns to Death's Door, and Bobby turns up there to find him.

Later Ponch gets back his old racing car, and sets of to meet the brother to race him Bobby is angry with him, but Ponch says that this is the only way that they brother is going to get it out of his system.

While at the race the brother tells Ponch that he is going to push him off at Death's Door as he did to his brother, Ponch explains that is not what happened, but he refuses to listen, the race starts.

At Death's Door, the brother tries to push Ponch off but fails and nearly goes off himself, but Ponch stops him with his car, the brother apologises to Ponch and they both make their peace with each other.

Meanwhile at Central, the owner arrives for the dog who was on the highway at the beginning, and although Harlan convinces everyone that he is happy to see the dog go, he is in fact sad, so he is very pleased when Bruce arrives with another dog. Although Getraer is not happy as he has a dog allergy and starts to sneeze again.
